Reverend William "Bill" Andrew Montgomery

Went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on October 31, 2024 at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, aged 85.

Beloved husband of Marion Joan Hughes for 55 years. Dear father of John (Jenn) of Pickering and Paul (Sarah) of Grande Prairie. Loving grandfather of Olive. Brother of the late Doug. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

Bill taught in the Toronto District School Board for 35 years, including two years teaching in Germany for the Department of National Defence. He went on to be a vice-principal and principal at multiple grade schools across Toronto. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Queen’s University in 1971, and his Master of Education from the University of Toronto in 1979.

After retiring from teaching, Bill attended Wycliffe College and earned his Master of Divinity. He was ordained Deacon in the Anglican Church of Canada in May 1996, and was priested in January 1997. He served as rector for St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Peterborough for seven years. In retirement he served as honorary assistant at St. John’s Ida for 16 years.

Bill travelled extensively across Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe and the Caribbean. He was a huge baseball fan, especially of his beloved Blue Jays. Bill also loved English football and was an avid supporter of Arsenal. He loved his Miniature Schnauzers; Deacon and Trooper.

Bill lived a life of service to others in all that he did.

Friends will be received at the COMSTOCK-KAYE LIFE CELEBRATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge St., Peterborough on Tuesday, November 12th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at ST. JOHN’S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 1758 County Rd. 10, Ida (Cavan) on Wednesday, November 13th at 11:00 am.
