1926-2012
May 9th, 2012 we lost our dear husband and father in Peterborough. Beloved husband of Tjerkje “Terry” and dear father of Peter (Lanette), Harold (Lise), Jim (Linda) and Janine (Richard). Loving Opa to Coby, Keoma, Kalina, Paul, Eric, Christine, Jacob and Katie. Jack leaves 3 brothers in Holland and 2 sisters-in-law and is predeceased by one brother. Jack lived a good life, loved his family and enjoyed his many pursuits. He was born in the Netherlands and received his masters of aeronautical engineering in Delft before immigrating to Canada in 1952. Terry followed the same year and they started their married life in Montreal. They lived in several cities as they started their family and Jack pursued his career with CAE, Avro Air and Canadian General Electric. They settled in Peterborough in 1960 where Jack worked at GE until his retirement. But Jack didn’t really retire as he believed in giving back to his community and was always active. He was very involved with many activities at George Street United Church as well as Boy Scouts, Meals on Wheels, building the Miniature Village, as a senior handyman and carving wooden shoes at festivals. He was also a big part of the Dutch Canadian community and was a founder of the Dutch Credit Union. He will be missed by his family and his many friends. All are welcome at the COMSTOCK FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street, from 7-9 pm Sunday. The Funeral service will be held at GEORGE STREET UNITED CHURCH, 534 George Street North, on Monday May 14, 2012 at 1:00 pm with reception to follow. The Reverend Allan Reeve will be officiating.
