He was preceded in death by his parents Hubert (Slugger) and Margaret Barrett (Bridson).
Steve married his high school sweetheart, Deborah Barrett (Cramer), on September 13, 1969. They spent over 50 years together with Steve adoring his wife every day of his life. Their son, Brett Barrett, was born September 14, 1971 in Peoria, Illinois. He is married to Heidi Barrett (Deatrick). Their four children were the greatest loves of Steve’s life: Blake Joseph, Tyler James, Hailey Alicia and Sadie Leticia Barrett. He is also survived by his brother, Brad Barrett, married to Diana Barrett.
Steve was born in Galesburg, Illinois and graduated from Elmwood High School in 1967. He served in the Air National Guard for 10 years before changing his career, spending the next 30 years as a salesman.
After retirement, Steve started a new chapter in his life, relocating to Greenville, Indiana to be near his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending his days as their personal chauffeur, driving them to school, baseball, gymnastics, dance and theatre. He loved to spoil his grandchildren and go on vacations with them. Steve enjoyed surprising everyone, even going as far as to zipline in Haiti.
He will always be remembered as being the first to offer a helping hand and bringing a crowd to their knees with his witty jokes. Steve loved to watch sports, especially baseball and golf. He was watching his favorite team, the Cubs, up until his last day. He loved cars, especially convertibles, buying his own Camaro convertible a few years ago. Steve was an original member of the Cramer family “Outlaws” and was given the honorary title of “The Captain.” He also enjoyed spending time with his extended family, including all of his nieces and nephews. Steve was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Bradford, Indiana.
