Rita Susanne "Sue" Alexander, 78, of Peoria, passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at OSF St. Mary's Medical Center in Galesburg. She was born on December 12, 1943 in Newark, NJ, a daughter of Hubert Jackson "Jack" and Genevieve "Rita" (Kearney) Rigg. Sue married William A. "Bill" Alexander on December 28, 1963 in Galesburg. He survives.
Also surviving are her three children, Wm. Andrew Alexander of Hudson, Elizabeth (Randall) Fussner of East Peoria, and Anna M. Alexander of Peoria; daughter-in-law, Nancie Alexander of East Peoria; 7 grandchildren, Rory and Rose Alexander, Wm. Ryan Fussner, Alyson and Tyler Payne, Casie (Ian) McDowell, and Cody Margetis; three great-grandchildren, Everett, Charlotte and Truitt McDowell; one brother, Wm. Thomas (Marsha) Rigg of East Peoria; her beloved Leah; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; and son, Christopher L. Alexander.
Sue met Bill at a dance where he was playing in his band, The Spotlites. They shared a love of music and began singing and playing the guitars at mass. They were active in the Cursillo for many years including playing guitars and singing with friends as a part of the Gut Bucket (it’s a Cursillo thing). Sue’s faith continued as a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Peoria Heights. Her artistry and creativity knew no bounds and she was willing to attempt any project with full intensity. She was a long time member of both the American Sewing Guild and the Gems of the Prairie Quilting Guild.
Sue lived her life with love and compassion and taught her family to see the good in all things and all people. She truly did not know a stranger.
Sue's funeral service will be at 7:00 pm Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Deacon Mark Kelsch will officiate. Her visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm also on Thursday at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria.
