Charmaine was an English trained teacher with 20 years of service in schools in the Negombo area of Sri Lanka. She started her teaching career at St. Thomas's College Kotte and met her love. She was an active member of her church community and served as the president of the Sacred Heart Society at St. Sebastian Church, Katuapitaya and was a founding member of Jayarathna Road “Maranadara” Society, helping and providing aide for funeral cost for those less fortunate. She was active in her community, volunteering her time teaching to children and orphans in the streets of Sri Lanka. Lady Lion Charmaine was an active member of the Lions Club Negombo and served as a host for over 10 years. She loved sharing her creativity and talent, sewing and knitting clothes for her friends and family, singing, and dancing. Above all, she devoted her life to her family and God.
Her legacy is survived by her children, Sagarika Warnakulasuriya, Frank (Harshica) Warnakulasuriya, Sriyantha (Prasadi) Warnakulasuriya, Dr. Loretta (Dr. Nihal Adikaram) Warnakulasuriya, Kashmira Srimali (Nishan) Bopearatchy, her grandchildren Shenali and Leon Warnakulasuriya, Dewmini, Bashita, and Kavindi Adikaram, Janindu, Yohan, Nethmi, and Hiruni Bopearatchy, her sister Srima Mallawaaratchi, and her brother Ranjan Fernando.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Flora Fernando, her husband, Malcolm Lowe, her sister, Karina Silva, her brother, Hema Fernando, and her granddaughter Dinithi Warnakulasuriya.
All services will be held at Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home (2408 W Willow Knolls Dr, Peoria, IL 61614) on Saturday, April 1, 2023. Visitation from 4pm-6pm. Funeral services will follow at 6pm. Repast (Mala Batha) will follow from 6:30pm-8pm.
