He was born April 18, 1932 in Bloomington, IL to Mark Royal Sr. and Alice Johanson Hurd. He married Mary K. (Trefzger) Hurd March 3, 1957 in Peoria. She passed away January 11, 2014 in Peoria.
Survivors include his nieces, Janice (Eric) Branch and Nancy (Tom) Kinnick; brother-in-law John Trefzger; great niece and nephew Bethany and Micah Kinnick; cousins, Bob Abrams, Karen Randle and Larry (Marian) Johanson and several other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Maynard Burwash; wife Mary; sister Alice Joy Price; step-sister Janet Burwash and nephew Dennis Price.
Mark was a proud USAF Jet Pilot. He worked for his father’s Food Brokage firm as a young man, then he and his wife opened and operated their restaurant Marko’s Delights Inc. for seven years. Later they started Hurd Realty Inc. and operated the business for over 25 years. For many years they also had several rental properties that Mark enjoyed maintaining. Along with fixing things he enjoyed drawing cartoons and flying model airplanes. He was a Mason for over 50 years and an active member of the Shriners. He helped form the Willow Knolls Men’s Golf League, where he was president for many years. Mark had a great sense of humor and was a wonderful story teller. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and also attended First Federated Church.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 8, 2019 from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home. Masonic services will begin at 10:30 a.m., with funeral services immediately following. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery.
