He was born July 28, 1924 in Chillicothe to Art and Ruth (Weber) Newell. He married Joyce (Malm) Hauck on January 15, 1977 in Chicago, IL. She survives.
Also surviving is one son, Kenny (Diana) Newell of Lakewood, CO; one daughter Jackie (Jeff) Shaw of Peoria, IL; one step-son, Kevin (Susan) Hauck of Chicago, IL; many grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother.
Kenneth graduated from Bradley University with a bachelor’s degree in business.
He served with the U.S. Navy during WW II in both the Atlantic and Pacific aboard the U.S.S. Hambleton and U.S.S. Cascade. He was a life member of VFW Post #814 Peoria, IL.
Ken retired from Morton Caterpillar as a systems analyst, after 41 years of service. He was a member of the Caterpillar Golf Club.
He was chief assistant of the Park Auxiliary Police.
He was past Master of Grandview Lodge #1112, A.F. & A.M., Peoria, IL in 1994. Illustrious brother Ken joined the Scottish Rite Valley of Peoria in 1976 and was a Life member and a member for 36 years. He received his 33rd Degree in 1995 in Milwaukee, WI. He was past Most Wise Master of the Valley of Peoria in 1987 and past Commander-in-Chief in 1996. Ken participated in degrees for the Valley, and was active in the Jim Kemper Scottish Rite Club and an active member of the Valley’s Men’s Club. He was also the Valley’s main photographer for many years. He served on the Valley’s Scholarship committee.
Ken was also a member of Mohammed Temple Shrine, where he was a member of the Legion of Honor.
Kenneth had many interests; golfing, Friday lunches with his friends, Bradley basketball games, reading, auto racing, air shows and traveling.
According to the family’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services. There may be Masonic services at a later date at the Scottish Rite. Davison-Fulton Woodland chapel is in charge of arrangements. Cremation will be accorded.
