John Anthony Schonberger

John A. Schonberger, age 90, of Peoria, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at Unity Point Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. John was born on February 26, 1925 in East Peoria, IL to Valentine and Regina (Schwerer) Schonberger. He married Patricia A. Hanrahan on January 21, 1956. Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Pat, of Peoria; his sister, Marie B. Godar of Washington, IL; his brother, Joe (Mary) Schonberger of Rome, IL; one niece and seven nephews; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Adam A. Schonberger; and one sister, Sr. Francine. John served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946, serving in the South Pacific. He worked for Caterpillar for 32 years, retiring in 1983 and was a member of the Local 974. John was hard-working and very giving person. He enjoyed watching movies and eating out, especially for ribs! A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 10am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Peoria. Father Donald Henderson will be officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery also in Peoria. Memorials may be made to Sophie’s Kitchen at St. Joseph’s.
