John was born April 1, 1941 in Joliet, IL to Gracie Lanora (Fowler) and Alderman Villads Dystrup. Both preceded him in death along with his step-mother Gladys Ann Dystrup. He was a Mayflower descendant of William White. John married Linda Tucker on April 24, 1966 in Peoria. She survives along with two daughters: Amanda (Dennis Webb) Dystrup and Romey (Eric) Mathewson, and six grandchildren: Alexis, Kassidy and Isabella Skaggs, and Makayla, Tyler and Alexis Mathewson. Also, his sister Norma (Dave) Fathauer, step-brother Wayne (Ronnie) Johnson, step-sister Faye Lynn (Tom) Shaffer and several nieces and nephews.
John was a Mechanical Engineer and retired from Caterpillar in 1997 after 33 years of service, specializing in Combustion Systems. This explained his love of sports cars and auto racing. He also had a great passion for music, playing the clarinet and banjo in many bands, but John’s interests didn’t stop there. In addition, he enjoyed golfing, running, woodworking, watching football, traveling and most of all, spending time with family and friends. He was an active member of the First Federated Church of Peoria.
The family would like to thank Grandview, Comfort Keepers, OSF Hospice and our many friends for the care and compassion shown for John over the past two years.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Funeral services will be Wed. May 23, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the First Federated Church in Peoria. Additional visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services on Wednesday at the church.
Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
