He was born on April 22, 1928 Peoria to Ross and Stella Dixon. He married Betty Jean Dobbins on October 5, 1952 in Peoria. She passed away July 13, 2015 in Peoria. He was also preceded in death by his two brothers: Robert “Bob” Dixon and Donald Dixon.
Surviving are two children: Debra Jean (Bill) Reardon of East Peoria, John David (Holly) Dixon of Germantown Hills; three grandchildren: Steve (Sarah) Reardon of Sunnyland, John Ross “J.R.” Dixon, Josh David Dixon, both of Germantown Hills; two great-grandsons: Cooper Brock Reardon and Cruz David Reardon, both of Sunnyland; and one sister, Norma Rockow of Peoria.
Robert, Donald, and Jack were the third generation Partners in the family business of Dixon Fisheries, which was started in 1896 by their grandfather. Jack developed and promoted “Dixons Seafood Shoppes”, and later was involved with developing whole sale distribution of fresh seafood.
He was a graduate from Bradley University. He was Secretary and Treasurer of the Illinois Fisheries Council, and first President and Charter Member of Alpha Phi Omega, the Scouting Fraternity. He was involved in scouting activities for over 15 years; serving as Scout Master and on various council committees. He served on the Germantown Grade School Board for 9 years. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Peoria. At church he served as an Elder, Deacon, and Clerk of Session. He was also a member of the Collective Board of the First National and Commerce Banks in Peoria. He was a past member of the Downtown Rotary Club and held a “Good Fellow” status. Jack loved to dance, ride horses, and go on camping and fishing trips. Golf and tennis was his favorite past time. He also enjoyed to travel with his wife Betty all over the United States, Canada, and Europe.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria is in charge of arrangements. The family would like to invite all family and friends to a graveside service on Friday November 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria, followed by a luncheon.
Memorials may be made to Proctor Endowment Home or the Peoria United Presbyterian Church.
