Dawana was born on October 29, 1935 in Sheldon, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur Struyk and Winifred (Kraai) Struyk. She was raised in Sheldon, Iowa and was employed at the local Soybean Plant. On December 17, 1960, Dawana married Roger Bilsland in Sheldon, Iowa. As newlyweds, they lived in Fort Knox, Kentucky, St. Louis, Missouri and then made their home in Peoria in 1963.
She leaves many fond memories to surviving family: two sons, Steven (Jeanne Fish) of Wildwood, MO, Jeffrey (Vickiren Wagner) of Peoria, IL, the daughter, Stephanie Jill Bilsland of Peoria, IL; her sisters, Lola (Dale) Love of Midvale, UT, Barbara Hulst of West Valley, UT and Cheryl (Lee) Hilbrands of George, IA; her special grandchildren, Jack Bilsland of Wildwood, MO, William Bilsland of Peoria, IL and Megan Bilsland of Wildwood, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, Bob Hulst.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother and sister, she worked for 10 years in the dietician’s office at Proctor Hospital. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Peoria. She was an active bowler, golfer, tennis and bridge player and leaves behind many loving friends.
The family wishes to thank the many members of the health community for their services over the last 15 years during her battle with cancer. A special thank you is offered to the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home for their comfort and support during her remaining hours.
Services will be held on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 10am at First United Methodist Church in Peoria. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2014 from 5pm to 7pm at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Rev. Dr. Robert Phillips will be officiating. Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Richard L. Owens Hospice Center, St. Jude or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
