Born January 15, 1946 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Thomas and Harriet (Foster) Freeman; she married Barry Kurz on December 23, 1967 in Cape Girardeau and he survives of Peoria.
Also surviving are her children, Liza (Clifford) Stanton of Morton, Francesca (Shane) Wickremesekera of Libertyville, IL and Caroline (Jonathan) Cochran of Pekin; seven grandchildren, Franklin, Anna, Thomas, Preston, Grant, Addison, and Nathan; two sisters, Martha Muench and Carole Freeman and one brother, Thomas Freeman.
Christy earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Boise State University and she earned her Masters of Social Work from the University of Illinois – Champaign.
She was a clinical social worker at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria and had previously worked at Methodist Hospital. Her personal commitment to helping others didn’t end when she left work, it was with her everywhere she went and shared with everyone she met.
Whether she was volunteering at the Crittenton Centers, especially holding babies, or being a special confidant and doling out life advice. Christy loved big. She especially loved big when it came to celebrating and decorating for holidays.
Her greatest joy was being a grandmother and spoiling her grandchildren. It was a treat for her to watch them grow and share in their lives. Speaking of treats, she was always up for a bit of ice cream at DQ or Wendy’s.
Christy was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Peoria where a private family service will be held.
Memorial Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home 2408 West Willow Knolls Rd, Peoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Crittenton Centers.
