She was born on September 15, 1926 in Hancock County KY, to Ollie and Stella (McDaniel) Jackson. She married Ernest "Ernie" Barker on April 5, 1958 in Owensboro, KY. He preceded her in death on April 7, 2018 in Peoria. Her parents, two brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.
Surviving are her two children, Gary and Jelaine (Tom) both of Peoria; four granddaughters, Jessica (Drew), Dominique (John), Brandi (Jonah), and Brittany (Mike), seven great-grandchidlren, one great-great-granddaughter, two siblings, Beulah McDaniel and Basil Jackson; and several nieces and nephews.
Maxine worked in the Westinghouse Lamp Factory for over 14 years before moving to Illinois to start her family. She was a member of the Dayton Ave Baptist Church in Peoria where she was active in the Homebound Ministry and also volunteered with the American Red Cross. Maxine loved doing jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, playing bingo, and watching Wheel of Fortune. She also had a great love for children and could be found babysitting on any given day.
A private graveside service will be held at Mt. Hawley Cemetery in Peoria. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
