Barbara Anne Stockwell

Barbara Stockwell, 81, of Peoria passed away at 10:39 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Rosewood Care Center. Barbara was born on November 18, 1932 in Akron, OH, the daughter of Ivan G and Florence L Wheeland Bladen. She married Donald R. Stockwell while he was on a ten day leave during the Korean War, June 15, 1952 at Wesminster Presbyterian in Peoria. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly A ( Robert) Murray of Peoria; their children, Stephanie and Sarah Murray of Peoria, Cassie (Matt Sadilek) Murray of Champaign; other grandchildren include, Jennifer (Tim) Krause of Peoria, Jessica (Vic) Levandoski, and Jeremy Woolard of Bloomington; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald Bladen of St. Charles, MO;one sister, Sue Ellen (John) Violano of Kissimmee, FL. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years; her parents; one daughter, Bonnie J. Darling; one brother, Thomas Bladen. She attended The Ohio State University for one year, and then attended Bradley University after her father’s career moved them to Illinois. She however always remained a Buckeye fan. As a young girl during the war she was responsible for the family grocery shopping. Part of the job included keeping track of the coupons and the ration vouchers. She was able to trade rarely used coupons for vouchers for coffee and milk. Barbara was a faithful member of United Presbyterian Church. She was in several church groups, including, Woman’s Circle, Supper Clubs, blanket making, and she was a Deacon. Barbara also sang in the choir at the former Acadia Ave. Presbyterian Church. Donald and Barbara were members of the Holiday Rambler Travel Trailer Club. They had many enjoyable years camping with family and friends. Barb enjoyed the mountains and the beach. She worked as an executive secretary in the Peoria area for over fifty years, last working for KC Jones Insurance Agency. Barbara worked full time until the age of 73. Barbara and her family also enjoyed the years she spent working for the American Shetland Pony Club and the friends they made. Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at United Presbyterian Church, 2400 W. Northmoor Rd. in Peoria. Rev. Dr. Stephen McKinney-Whitaker will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday July 1, 2014 from 5-7:00 p.m. also at the church. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens. Barbara’s family would like to thank the staff at Rosewood Care Center and Harbor Light Hospice for their compassionate care. Memorials may be made to her church or PAWS.
