A Laurice Joseph

She was born July 29, 1937 in Peoria to Joseph and Wadia (Sham) Joseph. They preceded her in death. She is survived by one sister, Julia McDonald of Texas, and several other family members. Laurice was a teacher at Trewyn School in Peoria for many years.

A message from her family:

Hers was an amazing life. She took the tragedy of her father’s murder and used it to hone her skills, her compassion, her relentless advocacy for the children who were drawn to her, to her power, to her love, to her fierce insistence on the worth of each of her students and each of her family and friends. Those who unwittingly encountered her unmovable commitment to their success usually became addicted to that unconditional love, including all of its many conditions. Everyone knew that she was a hard case, a survivor, stubborn as hell, and above all else, a cheerleader for everyone’s success. She died today. As we write this, we are trying to wrap our minds around a world without Laurice in it.

Public visitation will be Friday, Jan. 21, 2022 from 10 to 11 a.m. at St Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church in Peoria. A private Mass for the family will follow the visitation. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Burial will be in St Joseph Catholic Cemetery in West Peoria.
