Born in Pensacola in 1938, Tom grew up in East Pensacola Heights and graduated from Pensacola High School in 1956. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Georgia and British Guiana. He devoted his life to fire service and prevention, retiring as a captain with the Pensacola Fire Department, and a fire protection specialist with the Florida Department of Children and Families. Tom loved spending time with his family and friends, meeting new people, telling stories, and eating at his favorite restaurants.
Tom was preceded in death by his former wife, Mary “Pat” Bobe, and his sister, Elizabeth “Tucker” Bernsen.
Tom is survived by his wife, Franchen McArthur Bobe; son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Cynthia Bobe; daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Robert McCorkindale III; three stepchildren, Eric McArthur, Melanie Dillon, and Anna Marie McArthur; four grandchildren, Caitlan Carreiro, Ryder McCorkindale, Delia McCorkindale, and Anderson “Anders” McCorkindale; brother and sister-in-law, Baldwin “Jack” Bobe and Beth Boyd Taylor; sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Doug Hicks; and aunt, Barbara Thompson. Tom is also survived by many nieces and several nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Father Patrick H. Foley as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Chapel of the Peace at Bayview Memorial Park. Baldwin “Jack” Bobe (honorary), Todd Bobe, Nathan Hall, Eric McArthur, Robert McCorkindale III, Don Paro (honorary), David Warren, and John Welch will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 25, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Hwy.
