He graduated from Pensacola High School in 1960. Steven, most recently worked as a business owner of The Reef and Perdido Liquors. He was actively involved in the lives of his family. He shared his knowledge and passion for fishing, camping, gardening, playing cards and all things outdoors with his family, particularly his grandsons Steve (namesake) and Jackson. He continued the traditions with his great grandchildren Nathan and Zoey, who are already avid card players and love to fish. He was a very enthusiastic supporter of FSU and Alabama football. In later life, he reluctantly added Auburn to the mix when his youngest grandson began college there.
