Virgil “Roy” Young, age 83, of Pensacola, FL, went home to be with his Lord Monday, September 16, 2013. He was born November 29, 1929 in Hamilton, MS to the late James R. Young and Tansel Ambrella Anthony Young.
Roy was a veteran having served in the United States Army. He retired from Monsanto with 32 years of service and later taught small appliance repair at George Stone Vocational School. He was also a member of Brentwood Assembly of God Church. Roy loved fishing, crossword puzzles, reading his Bible and following his favorite college football team, the Florida Gators. He was also a NASCAR fan following his favorite driver, Jeff Gordon.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Anola Gay Young and 9 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Willie A. Young; his son, Keith Young; his daughter, Tracye Young, all of Pensacola, FL; his grandchildren, Shea (Todd) Blackwell of Newport News, VA and Ginger Edmunds of Pensacola, FL; his great grandchildren, Haley Blackwell and Tyler Blackwell; his sister, Edith Gertrude Trenter of Summerville, TN; and his brother, Lloyd R. Young of Pensacola, FL.
Funeral services will be Monday, September 23, 2013 at 11:30 AM with Rev. Kenneth Martin and Rev. Avon Fowler officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery at 1:15 PM with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, September 22, 2013 from 3 until 5 PM.
