1935-2016
On Monday Morning, September, 26, 2016, Roy Dale O'Brien, 81, walked into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, leaving behind the pain and suffering of cancer.
He was greeted by his parents, Glen and Laura O'Brien, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Emma Jean O'Brien; two daughters: Cindy Wheeler and Sharon (Larry) Marshall of Pensacola; two sons: Jeffrey (Lisa) O'Brien of SlapOut, Alabama and Jimmy (Cassie) O'Brien of Atmore, Alabama; 13 grandchildren: Michaela Marshall, Tiffani (Brett) Lee, Benjamin Marshall, Anthony (Megan) Wheeler, Kory (Jessica) O’Brien, David (Jamie Lynn) Martin, Marissa Wheeler, Jade (Ronnie) Partridge, Blaine O’Brien, Danielle (Brannon) Sanspree, Loryn O’Brien, Brittany Wheeler and Kristin Wheeler and 16 great grandchildren, sister, Carolyn Ross, brothers, Wilford and Claude O'Brien, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Roy served in the United States Army 1957-1959. This launched his career in civil service where he helped to build the first naval computer network.
Roy served several area churches as minister of music and youth and most recently has been at Bellview Baptist Church for 35 years. Roy has served as a Gideon in Pensacola West Camp since April 2, 1991.
Pallbearers will be Larry Marshall, Benjamin Marshall, Anthony Wheeler, Kory O’Brien, David Martin and Blaine O’Brien. Honorary pallbearers are the Pensacola West Camp of Gideons. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to Gideon International or Bellview Baptist Child Care.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2016 at Bellview Baptist Church. A memorial service will take place Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Bellview Baptist Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home.
