Mildred was born October 24,1923 in Flomation, Alabama. Her parents, Albert Cooper and Viola Gilchrist Cooper, lived in Canoe,Florida. She was the oldest of 8 siblings, with 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Only sisters Nette Franklin and Mary Young survive her.
On March 8, 1942, Mildred married Earl Albert Jackson. They were married for 60 years when he passed away in 2002. They lived in Pine Forest from 1942 until 1972 when they moved to Ensley.
Cherishing her memory are daughter Sherry and husband Bill Krantz, son Al and wife Donna, grandchildren, Jennifer Jackson and husband Jonas Keating, John David Krantz and wife Michelle, great grandchildren, Jacob, Genni, Hadley, Joslyn, and Joseph Krantz. And special son, Johnny Mason.
In 1942, Mildred joined the Pine Forest Methodist church. She was an active member for 78 years, serving on many different committees, one of her favorites being the History committee, having lived so much of it. She was known for her cooking and served in the church kitchen for many years. She was active in the WSCS which later became the United Methodist Women. In her later years she served on the prayer chain.
In 1958, Mildred began working in the school lunchroom at Ensley elementary school, and taking night classes to earn her GED. Then she took classes at PJC to earn her certificate for school lunchroom manager. Her first assignment as lunchroom manager was at P.K.Young elementary school. Her next assignment was at Bellview elementary school. She was the lunchroom manager for Pine Forest high school when it opened.
During WWII, Mildred worked in the post exchange and tailor shop at Camp Van Dorn in Mississippi. She was a long time member of the Ensley Order of the Eastern Star,and was a Past Matron. She liked camping with family and friends. And, she liked to watch Billy Graham on TV.
She loved her family. She loved her church family. And she loved cooking for everyone.
