Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Bass, beloved wife to Dewitt Gray Bass, Jr. of Pensacola, Florida passed away on April 14, 2024. Mary leaves behind many family members who loved her dearly as she left a legacy of faith and dedication to her family.
Mary was born to her parents Grover and Gladys Hobbs on October 18, 1941 in Rosinton, Alabama. Mary is preceded in death by her parents. Mary is survived by her husband of 46 years, Gray Bass and her sister, Barbara Short of Daphne, Alabama. Mary is also survived by Gray's sister, Carolyn and brother-in-law, Jim Gillespie and 3 nephews, Ben, Michael, Daniel and their families and many cousins and family members. The sweet memories of spending time with Mary will never be forgotten as she was a gift to her family with all of the joy she brought to them. Mary spent many years serving the community by teaching elementary school in both Alabama and Pensacola. Mary loved teaching children, and her family is certain that she touched many lives through her work. Mary spent time playing the piano and sharing this skill with others. Mary's contagious faith in Jesus Christ, along with her gentle spirit, will never be forgotten by her loved ones. What a blessing Mary was to all who knew her.
A graveside service for Mary will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 22, 2024 at Bayview Memorial Park, 3351 Scenic Highway, Pensacola, FL 32503. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Monday at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given in memory of Mary to the charity of your choice.
