Dan was born June 11, 1943 in Monroeville, Alabama to Lewis Daniel Turberville, Sr. and Phronie Coleman Turberville. L. Daniel Turberville, Jr., graduated from St. Bernard Preparatory School in 1961. He graduated from the University of Denver with both a B. A. (1967) and M.A. (1969) in History and Florida State University with an M.S. (1971) in Vocational Rehabilitation. Dan was a member of the inaugural class at Miles School of Law, having graduated in 1978; later that year, he became the first Miles graduate to pass the Alabama Bar examination. Dan was a member of the Birmingham Bar Association, where he practiced law for 20+ years. In 1991, he received the Clarence Darrow Award from the Alabama State Bar Association. He served on the Board of St. Bernard for many years. He also served in the United States Army Reserve from 1968 to 2002 as Company Commander, Inspector General, and Army Historian. He was a marathon runner for over 25 years, completing numerous races, and an avid reader. He was married to Camilla Turberville (Schefano) for the last 24 years. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter Wynn Dee Allen, son-in law Richard H. Allen, grandson Harrison Allen, all of Montgomery, Alabama and sister, Winnie Kay Hamilton (Turberville) of Monroeville, AL. In recent years, his greatest thrill was travelling to Montgomery to watch his grandson play high school football.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Craig Smith as celebrant. Inurnment will follow with military honors at Barrancas National Cemetery.
