Kim Patrick Hogan, 76, died peacefully in his home in Gulf Breeze on Wednesday, September 29 after a courageous battle with cancer. Kim was born to the late Quintin G. and Shirley A. Hogan September 11, 1945 in Chicago Illinois.
Following high school Kim attended The University of Illinois, earning a BS in Art/Design. After graduation he enlisted in the Army where he held the Rank of CW4 and flew helicopter missions in the Vietnam Conflict where he earned the Air Medal (22nd Award), Army Achievement Medal, Vietnam National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Senior Army Aviator Badge, and Republic of Viet-Nam Campaign Medal.
Returning to the States he was a flight instructor before working with his father and brother-in-law Ollie E. Saarinen building homes in Illinois and South Florida.
Kim’s love for flying took him to New Orleans and the Louisiana Air National Guard and his employment with Air Logistics flying helicopters in the Gulf of Mexico. Following retirement he moved permanently to Pensacola Beach in 2001. Here at the Beach he joined the Elks Lodge 497, Krewe of Wrecks Mardi Gras Krewe, Served on the Parish Council for Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was selected in 2020 to serve the KOW as Ship’s Officer and was looking forward to the Mardi Gras 2022 Celebration.
Kim loved life and his Schnauzer named “Prince”. He could be seen tooling around town in his Red Corvette and seen often at Flounder’s, Paradise and the Lodge.
Kim is preceded in death by his parents Quintin G. and Shirley A. Hogan. He is survived by 2 daughters, Kimberly (Greg) Horstman of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Kristen Hogan of Bradenton, Florida and one sister, Kandi (Olle) Saarinen. Grandchildren Elizabeth (Jeff) Waters of Westfield, Indiana, Brittney Horstman of Robinson, Illinois, Zach Horstman of St. Paul, Minnesota., Hannah Horstman of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Kingston Hogan of Bradenton Florida.
Four great grandchildren Ethan & Gracie Reynolds and Roland Waters and Dexter Yager. Kim was loved by his nieces and nephews, Quentin, Tiffany, Gregory and Steve Saarinen. His Uncle, Gordon J (Carol) Hogan, Cousin Kathy Kitson and his chosen Florida family: Conrad Hamilton, Ella Hess, Rob Rogue, Brenda Purdy, Jim Burke and many others including the Knights of Columbus and members of the Elks Lodge.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated with Monsignor Luke Hunt, Celebrant, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 100 Daniel Drive, Gulf Breeze, FL. on Monday, October 11. Rosary will be at 10:15AM, visitation at 10:30AM and Mass at 11:00AM. Following will be a luncheon in the Parish Hall. Burial will be at Barranca National Cemetery on Tuesday, October 12. Meet at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Hwy, Pensacola, FL. at 1:30 PM for the procession to the Naval Air Station.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in loving memory of Kim Hogan to Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church for the Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.
