Remembering Kevin from his military school at Pensacola, FL, in the mid-70's. His tall lanky appearance led to his nickname of "Rubber Band Man." He was truly exceptional.

To the family of Kevin Summers. My name is Ken Samples. I transferred here from Bay pines VA just before the JACC opened. Out on Kenmore road. Kevin was introducing 3 new clerks of which I were one. When he got to me he said "This is Mr. Samples. I don't know anything about him or where he came from. I'm just the supervisor and nobody tells me anything! I am black and all I thought was "This is my boss? I'm so screwed! I was the clerk of a new department that even the Chief of MAS was unaware of. I was a single dad raising 2 children. The younger one,  a boy developed Schizophrenia two years later at 16. Kevin was a God-send to me. I had someone to talk to and had my back when I would have to leave unannounced. He became not only my supervisor, but my friend. We would laugh and talk about the Army. I love him and salute him. We lost someone special on this plane. The best to you during this time. I keep trusting God. He hasn't failed me yet. He says "there is a time for everything; Ecclesiastes 3 

I just learned about Kevin’s passing. I met Kevin in Pensacola and we were best friends through our time in the Army. We were roommates in Augsburg Germany. He was was a great friend. I am truly saddened today. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

My condolences to the family. Kevin was my supervisor at the VA for many years and he was a great person.  I will keep the family in my prayers.

My deepest condolences to the Summer’s family.  I will remember our VA days at the old and new clinic.

We are so sad to hear about Kevin's passing and we are very sorry for your loss.  Kevin was truly special in so many ways.  You are in our thoughts, prayers, and have our deepest heartfelt sympathy.  

My prayers of strength and peace for the family of Kevin. I've worked with Kevin at the VA for a number of years. Sadden to hear of his transitioning on. He was a great person to work around with and a funny guy. God's grace and covering friend.

Kevin was one of my students at NTTC CORRY STATION in the mid-70's; his positive attitude,  sense of humor and gangly athletic skills led to him getting the nickname "rubber band man." When I left for Augsburg in March 1977, he rode to Indiana with me and I dropped him at home. We remained friends for many years, and I can't say enough about the great guy he was. I'll miss him, and know we will see each other again. 

So very sorry. We will miss you. A wonderful man. Perfect gentleman always spoke to me. Prayers to the family. 

Our sympathies to Donna & family. Kevin was one of the first members of the American Legion Post 240 that spoke to us in the lounge. We always enjoyed our friendship with him & will miss him terribly. We are so glad we got to know him. He was a veteran & very friendly member of the American Legion Riders of Post 240 & volunteered hours of his time to American Legion Post 240 in service to our veterans, members & community.  RIP Kevin. You are missed & loved.

Kevin is one of the good guys who made a positive difference in the world.  He is known to me as a dedicated, professional soldier who made a real difference in his role as a SIGINT Collector/Analyst in the US Army.  As a Cold Warrior, Kevin played a non-combatant role in a very real campaign to remain a step ahead in the ideological & strategic struggle which existed between the USA and USSR.  Kevin was an instrument of security and freedom, as well as a leader.   Later it became my pleasure to share life with Kevin while working at the Pensacola VA Clinic,  Kevin not only continued to serve in the public interest, but his enthusiasm and effort made him stand out.  Kevin maintained a wonderful balance between executing the demands of the VA hierarchy, while conveying a message of individual care and understanding for those who we around him.  In my view Kevin passes as a man worthy of respect and admiration.
