James Samuel Taylor, affectionately known as Zack, peacefully passed away on September 16, 2023, surrounded by his beloved family after a valiant and brief battle with cancer. Zack was born on January 3, 1938, to Leon and Mildred Taylor, and spent his early years in Fulton, Arkansas. He went on to obtain both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of Arkansas.
In 1967, Zack married the love of his life, Dolores June Davis. They had three wonderful sons: Sam, Seann, and Shannon. Zack's dedication to family was unwavering and anchored by love.
Zack dedicated 21 years of his life to serving his country in the United States Navy as a naval aviator and retired as a Lieutenant Commander (LCDR). Post-military service, he continued to contribute his expertise as a computer analyst, showcasing his dedication and skills in the technology sector.
An accomplished athlete, Zack utilized his talents to secure a track scholarship for his higher education. He held a deep passion for soccer, volleyball, softball, and basketball, both as a player and a fan. Over the years, he generously shared his love for these sports by coaching teams and officiating matches.
Zack’s spiritual journey was profoundly important to him. He took on many leadership roles including serving as a deacon, teaching in the youth group, leading music in worship services, and building sets for puppet productions. Zack's faith in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of his life.
Zack's legacy lives on through his devoted wife, Dolores June Taylor, and their three cherished sons and families: Sam and Dana Taylor (Kathryn/Nick, Kimberly/Brandon), Seann and Rebecca Taylor (Noah, Nathan, Loretta), Shannon and Kerri Taylor (Caleb, Emma, Noah, Megan).
A Celebration of Life service will be held in the chapel at Bay View Memorial Park on Scenic Highway in Pensacola, Florida, on September 30, 2023, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember the remarkable life of James Samuel Taylor.
