George Butler Jr. passed away on December 10, 2024 in Gulf Breeze, Florida. He was born to loving parents, George Butler Sr. and Oma Hagan Butler in Bainbridge, Georgia on March 22, 1928. He lived in Pensacola, Florida for most of his life.
George graduated from Pensacola High School in 1947 and from Pensacola Junior College in 1976. He joined the Air Force in September of 1947 and served during the Korean War. He became an Air Force Reservist from 1951 until 1974. George worked for the Department of the Navy from 1951 to 1979 during which time he was an aircraft mechanic, aircraft inspector, and Quality Assurance Supervisor. He received numerous awards and recognition for outstanding performance and superior accomplishment. George has been a member of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church since 1963 where he served as a Sunday School Teacher. His favorite pastime was golfing and playing yahtzee with his girls. His greatest treasure was his family. George loved God, Family, and Country.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Kimmons Butler; his parents, George Butler Sr. and Oma Hagan Butler; his twin brother, James Butler; his brother, Charles Butler; and his sisters, Clara Jane Wyatt and Jean McCauley.
He is survived by his daughters, Rhonda Landrum, Theresa Madigan, and Ramona (Owen) Braddus; grandsons, Alex Taylor, Sean Taylor, and Patrick Madigan; granddaughter, Kameron Cyr; great granddaughter Madeleine Cyr; and numerous nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grand nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
Funeral Services will be held at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church, 5920 Lillian Hwy, Pensacola, FL. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 17th, 2024 from 11:30am-12:30pm with services to follow from 12:30pm-1:30pm. A Committal service will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery at 2:00pm.
