Franklin Delano Sexton, 85, of Pensacola, FL, transitioned from his house on Earth to Heaven on Thursday, October 25th, 2018.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Gwendolyn Brown Sexton, parents: John Wesley and Verla Holcomb Sexton; brothers: Wilburn, James (Bryce), and Walter Sexton, and sisters: Lorene Moore and Marie Chidgey.
Frank will be greatly missed by his sons Franklin Duane Sexton (wife Elizabeth Plant Sexton) and Gregory Scott Sexton (wife Betty Fountain Sexton); grandchildren: Adam Sexton, Bryan Sexton, Natalie Coleman, Micah DeTora-Plant, and Connor Phillips-Plant; brother, Carl Sexton (wife Jean), sister, Pauline Bass; eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Frank was a graduate of Brilliant High School; Free Will Baptist Bible College (now Welch College), Bachelor of Arts; George Peabody Teacher’s College (now part of Vanderbilt University), Master of Arts; and the University of Southern Mississippi, Doctor of Philosophy.
He was also a veteran of the United States Navy.
Frank retired from teaching English in the Escambia County School District, Madison Junior College, Pensacola Junior College (Professor of English), and Troy State University, with combined teaching experience totaling 40 years.
Frank was a dedicated member of Gonzalez Baptist Church for 53 years, serving as Music Director for 10 years, and as a choir member, deacon and Sunday school teacher for over 50 years.
Frank loved to read books of all genres, do crossword puzzles, keep his yard in pristine condition, and grow beautiful flowers and delicious vegetables. He was also an avid fan of University of Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. immediately followed by a service. Pallbearers will be Adam Sexton, Bryan Sexton, Connor Phillips-Plant, Joe Coleman, David Fitzpatrick, and Gary Holt.
