Emma Kathryn Jett

Emma Jett sadly passed away on November 28, 2023 in Pensacola, Florida. She was the daughter of Joseph Harrison Jett and Frankie Thompson Jett and was born in Page, West Virginia. Page is a small town in the mountains with a population of 200+/-. Until recently it wasn't even on Google Maps but she was very proud of her heritage.

After her father passed, her mother moved the family to Huntington and it was here she attended Huntington High School.She became lifelong friends with several classmates and three of them wound up in Pensacola for the largest part of their lives. She was also a devoted Marshall University fan and her vanity plate read T Herd! Even during her 2 year stay at The Blake she usually had her book about Huntington in her lap, just in case someone had never heard of it. She and her sister Frances were very close and the Jett's always looked forward to our trips home to see the family and friends, sometimes traveling by train all the way to West Virginia.

She began working for her only employer at 17 as a Cord Board Operator. She was devoted and loyal to "Ma Bell" for 48 years and always received the highest accolades on her reviews. She was always the first one to get there and the last one to leave. She traveled from Huntington, to Detroit, back to Huntington, to Florida, New York, Panama City, Jacksonville and finally back to Pensacola. She was active in the Pilot Club for many years and when she wasn't working she made sure her son Joe had the love, guidance, and attention any mother could give.

She cherished her lifelong friends Katy Morrison, Helen Jo Glancy and Georgia Neville and she was famous for always saying "to have a friend you have to be a friend"! From the 80's on her attention shifted to her grandson Ryan and later her granddaughters Caroline and Emma-Kate. She spent countless hours with them and they are better for it! She retired in 1993 and immediately began volunteering at the National Naval Aviation Museum where she looked forward to every shift for 28 years. Like everywhere else she went she made lasting friendships with her fellow volunteers, Like Phil & Maureen Duryea. She loved telling everyone that she “was the only Jett in the museum that still worked”.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Mary Elizabeth Yackey, Carl Jett and Frances Bess and her dear friends Katy and Henry Morrison.

She is survived by her son Joe, her grandchildren Ryan, Caroline and Emma-Kate and her nephews Doug & Jack Bess and niece Jane Wooten.

Graveside service will be held in Bayview Memorial Park on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 12 noon followed by a light reception at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel.
