Mrs. Dorothy (Dot) Lamar Leitch, born June 4, 1923, passed away on July 10, 2018, at the age of 95. Born in New Jersey, Dot was a resident of Pensacola, FL since 1945. She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Lillian Shuster, her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Adelaide Shuster, her first husband, James W. Lamar, and her second husband, Hugh J. Leitch. Also preceding her in death was a beloved granddaughter, Kimberly Sue Lamar; her only son and daughter-in-law, James W. Lamar and Sue Clary Lamar; two stepdaughters, Loretto Leitch and Joan Leitch Gilson. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lurleyne L. and Donald E. Terry, Pensacola; her daughter, Louise Lamar Levy, Pasadena, CA; two stepdaughters, Christine Leitch Newbill and Mary Leitch Cuneo, both of Pensacola; grandchildren, Jeff Shepard (Lorna) Truckee, CA; Jennifer Shepard (Pamela) Altadena, CA; Michelle Lamar-Acuff (Karl), Pensacola and Tallahassee, and Jimmy Lamar, Pensacola ; Benjamin Levy, Boston, MA; and Samuel Levy (China), St. Louis, MO. Great grandchildren, Colin Acuff, India Forrest-Shepard, Gretchen Lamar, and James Lamar, and grand dog, Maggie Terry. Many nieces and nephews also survive her. Dot is also survived by a very special friend of 70+ years, Mrs. Betty Bubien.
Dot was employed as the main receptionist at Chemstrand Corporation (Monsanto) for 30+ years. After her retirement and a brief respite as a homemaker, she returned to work first at the Pensacola Chamber of Commerce and then at Pensacola Junior College where she remained until her stroke in 2010.
A memorial service in celebration of Dot’s life will be held on at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 3200 North 12th Avenue, Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Christopher’s.
