Charlotte Ann Johnson, age 80, passed away on December 3, 2023, at her home in Fleming Island, Florida after a years-long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. Charlotte was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee in April of 1943. She grew up in the Pensacola, Florida area where she graduated from Pensacola High School in 1961. Following her graduation from high school, she received several scholarships which allowed her to continue her education at Pensacola Junior College, the University of Southern Mississippi, Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida and the University of South Florida. Always an excellent student, she earned Bachelors and Masters degrees in Library Science and an additional Masters Degree in Liberal Studies.
In 1964 she married Stephen Johnson, a marriage that lasted until her death. At various times during her life, she worked as a professional librarian in public schools, public libraries, college libraries and as a medical librarian at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. She was the adoptive mother to one child, Lora Ellen Carrero of Kingsland, GA. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one sister, Carmen Scheibeler of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Joel Scully of Baltimore, Maryland, Savannah Collins of Mediapolis, Iowa, and Adison and Kohlton Johnson of Evans, Georgia.
Charlotte was a lover of books and particularly loved reading to children in her role as a children’s librarian during her employment in public libraries. She was an avid reader and seemed to completely enjoy experiencing adventures through books.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, December 12 at Bayview Memorial Park in Pensacola, Florida.
