Bobby Earl Hood, born April 27th, 1934, to Jack and Reba Hutchison-Hood in Manchester, GA. Bobby grew up in Opelika, AL., becoming faithful to Auburn football. He later joined the United States Navy May 28th, 1951. He achieved MM2 rank, serving during the Korean War on the USS Wisconsin. After four years of duty, he was honorably discharged, April 13th, 1955. Recipient of Korean Service Medal, and United Nations Medal Korea.
Bobby was married to his one and only love, Sylvia Sue Cook, on December 2nd, 1956. Together, their unity brought their first and only daughter, February 14th, 1963. He later began a long career with the US Post Office, in Opelika, AL., achieving Postmaster in Alexandria, AL. (1982). After retiring from postal service in 1992, Bobby continued work in real estate sales, eventually settling in Pensacola, FL.
He passed away peacefully, comforted by family and his Heavenly Father, January 3rd, 2022. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Tim Boogerd, grandsons Matt Wilkins and Josh Wilkins, and countless family and friends.
Bobby was a long-time devoted member to Wesley United Methodist Church, in Opelika, AL. Through the church, he learned to make his famous Brunswick Stew.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 14, 2022 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Highway. Interment will follow with full military honors at Barrancas National Cemetery.
