Anne Remitera, 73, passed away on April 21, 2024, at West Florida Hospital. She was wife and widow of Jose Remitera, a retired USN Master Chief with 32 years of active service. They shared 53 magical years of marriage together.
Born in Greenock, Scotland, in 1950, Anne was the daughter of Patrick and Elizabeth Patton and sister to Jim, Richard, Lynne, Kay, Marie, and Karen. She was a member of the Catholic Church.
Anne just loved people and they loved her.
She was a great storyteller and with her sharp Scottish witt and easy laughter she was a master at connecting with people from all walks of life…she truly never met a stranger.
Anne also loved playing a “wee” bit of bingo and going to the casino…and whenever asked, “how did you do?”…she would always reply, “I broke even”…that is unless she won :).
Mom also loved to cook! It was a passion of hers. She would somehow make the most delicious meals from scratch with the most basic items. Her fried eggplant was to die for. Also being Scottish and marrying a Filipino, her family and friends got the best of both worlds…lumpia and shepherds pie were often served together.
Mom was always the life of the party and had stories that would make your sides split with laughter. She loved to sing Scottish ballads, but I think she loved dancing with her husband Joe most of all. A song like, “Knock Three Time” by Tony Orlando and Dawn, would come on in the kitchen and they would spontaneously sweep each other in their arms and start to cha cha! As kids it was impossible not to recognize the true love and connection they had with each other.
Anne had a true love for everyone, but perhaps none deeper than the love for her own mother. To her last day she pined for her “Mammy”. That woman meant everything to her.
Anne would often say her career was raising her weans (kids). Along with her husband Joe, they instilled their values and passion for life in her three children, Joseph, Lisabeth, and Annette.
Anne’s current and future generations will always be in her debt for the life lessons she taught by example.
Anne is survived by her son Joseph, his wife Michelle, her daughter Lisabeth her husband Will, her daughter Annette and her husband Steve, and her six amazing grandchildren: Liam, Anna, Anthony, Elizabeth, Stella, and Sienna.
Mom now we know what it feels to pine for our “Mammy”…you will always truly mean everything to us.
A memorial service will be held in her home town of Greenock, Scotland, in July.
