Alan was born July 3, 1949 in Erie, PA to Robert L. "Bob" Beckman and Barbara "Babs" Beckman. He was the oldest of three siblings.
As a young boy, Alan grew up in Perry, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Alan graduated from Taylor County High School class of 1967. After graduating from TCHS, Alan earned his bachelor degree from University of Florida and went on to earn a law degree from Memphis State University. His first job out of law school had him working for the Miami-Dade County (FL) District Attorney's Office, and then out to Denver, CO as a criminal defense attorney. In 1982 the Governor of Colorado appointed Alan to the bench as Arapahoe County Judge. Alan then moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1993 where he helped open the UNLV paralegal studies program and taught almost every subject until his retirement in 2013.
Alan was passionate about his writing, whether it was writing judicial opinions as a judge, or writing books on the fundamentals of law. Alan wanted to bring the law to everyone in an easily digestible form, even into retirement where he continued to update his books for potential paralegals across the country.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by two brothers, Gary Beckman (Lucy) of Arlington, TN and Lee Beckman of Fort Lauderdale, FL; one son, Jarad Beckman (Gigi) of Las Vegas, one grandchild, Elise Amelie Beckman of Las Vegas; as well as niece Ashley Troughton (Jeremy) and nephew Nicholas Beckman (Nikki) of Arlington, TN.
A memorial service will be held at 10am September 8, 2019 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel in Pensacola, FL. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Alan's memory to https://www.michaeljfox.org/
