He was born and native to Mobile, AL, and graduated from Mary G. Montgomery High School in 1969. He attended the University of West Alabama before enlisting in the United States Air Force as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist “Boom Operator on a KC-135 Tanker”. He served in the Vietnam War and was Honorably Discharged with ranking Sergeant. He was hired on with Southern Railway in 1976 which later became Norfolk Southern and served as a Locomotive Engineer until 1999 before leaving on medical disability. He is a member of the BLET Union.
Danny was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. Earlier fond memories was going on yearly hunting trips to Colorado with his Father, Herman Maddox, and uncle, Lewis Garrett, and brothers, Charles and Ronnie Maddox, along with friends and relatives. He continued to hunt with his son and grandson.
Danny retired to the “Lake” and loved living on Logan Martin Lake where he taught his grandkids to fish and ski, and pulled them on the inner tube. He loved his pontoon boat and enjoyed sitting on the pier watching his grandchildren swim and play.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years; Rita Watson Maddox, son; Ryan Maddox (Kristi), daughter; Casey Maddox Hafer (JJ), grandchildren; Cody Maddox, Hannah Maddox, Aubrey Maddox, and special angel, Natalie, brothers; Charles Maddox (Martha) and Ronnie Maddox (Tammy), close friends, brother-in-law’s, sister-in-law’s, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Herman and Elizabeth Maddox.
A visitation will be held at Mt. Pisgah Church on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 10:00am with a service following at 11:00am. Danny will be laid to rest at Mt. Pisgah Adjacent Cemetery.
