GARY LEE SPARKS was born on April 5, 1942 in Hopkins, Nodaway Co, Missouri, the son of Eldon Grover and Marjorie Macil (Hall) Sparks. He passed away Dec, 21, 2021 in Pell City, St.Clair Co., AL. at the age of 79.
Soon after graduation from Estherville High in Estherville, Iowa, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He spent the next four years on Vandenburg AFB California learning future career skills in civil engineering, with a specialty in carpentry. Upon receiving an honorable discharge in June of 1965, he was employed by major construction companies. Moving across the country he continued working in construction, supervising the building of large hospitals, schools, churches, etc. He retired to the small community of Alpine, Alabama, where he pursued his hobbies of woodworking skills in building furniture and fishing with his brother Randy.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters; Patricia Ellen Lambertus of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Carol Diane Hanson of No Mankato, Minnesota, and Betty Eileen Wieck of Dennison, Iowa. Gary was survived by a sister, Katherine Ann Greulich (Martin), of Minneapolis, MN and a brother Eldon "Randy" Sparks (Mary) of Talladega Co, AL. He left behind 16 nieces and nephews and dozens of great and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Gary never married, had no children but was loved by a wealth of family and friends.
Gary requested he be cremated and his remains laid to rest at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.
