Frank Riddle, age 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 20, 2021 surrounded by family. The family will receive friends from 11:00am - 1:00pm at the Kilgroe Funeral Home on Friday, September 24, 2021, with the Funeral Service to follow at 1:00pm in the Chapel and the Graveside Service will be at St. Clair Memorial Gardens.
Frank was a graduate of St. Clair Co. High School and was on the cheerleading squad. Frank served his country proudly in the US Army, in Germany. Frank was raised in Low-Gap, AL and moved to Riverside in 1969, after purchasing the Riverside Gulf service station in 1967. Frank immediately became interested in and committed to the town of Riverside and served on the town council for several terms, as well as volunteering with the fire department. In 1997 he resigned from the town council and received a Grade Two Water Operator Certification and began managing the Water Department for the town of Riverside. Frank managed several water departments over the years, most recently the Wolf Creek Water Department. He was passionate about safe, clean drinking water and served several terms on the Alabama Rural Water Association Board where he won many awards including Operator of the Year and The John Garrett Award.
Frank possessed a passion for helping people, he loved going on mission trips and especially enjoyed being a member of the St. Clair Co. Baptist Association Disaster Relief Team.
Frank was a member of Riverside Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Music Director. Frank possessed a deep faith and relied on God for peace and strength during his life and especially during his recent illness. Frank always opened the worship services by saying, “God is Good, all the time”.
Frank also served as a Gideon for many years, speaking on behalf of the Gideons all over St. Clair Co.
Frank especially enjoyed working for Kilgroe Funeral Home for over 20 years, he considered his work there a ministry.
Frank enjoyed WORKING, fishing, going on vacation with his grandchildren, gardening, providing numerous people with firewood and living life to its fullest.
Frank will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Noland and June Riddle, three sisters, Johnny Edwards, Helen Free and Ruth Dillard, two brothers, Ellis Allen and Charles Brightman. Frank is survived by his wife of 62 years Linda Harris Riddle, one son, Jeff Riddle (Sherry), two daughters, Jennifer Riddle and Roseann Warren (Frank), three grandchildren, Vennesa Thompson (Joey), Josh Warren and Kira Warren and two great-grandchildren, Morgan Thompson and Kameron Thompson, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Jim Purdy, Randall McCormick, Joey Thompson, Kameron Thompson, Hoyt Washington, Rusty Jessup, and Jimmy Hollander. Honorary Pallbearers will be TC Carr, Frank Warren, and all the Kilgroe Guys: Mitch, Dennis, Jimmy, Andy, Brandon, Jacob, Drew, & Scott.
The family extends a special thank you to friend Sam Maddox, caregiver Rhonda Whitfield and Leigh Ann Thomas, Tracy Whitten and Jo Banks of Lakeside Hospice.
