(1906-2010)
Rev. David George Milligan, 103, was born in Pittsburg, PA, December 9, 1906. After Jesus finished preparing a place for him, David went to be with his Lord on April 15, 2010.
David grew up in Alberta Canada, the youngest of 4 children born to John Nelson Milligan and Annie McKee Milligan. They had immigrated to Canada from Ireland by way of Pittsburg, PA. It was from this family that he inherited a wonderful sense of humor as well as a delightful Irish brogue.
David and his first wife of 62 years, Neva Dell, began their relationships with their Lord and Savior together. After beginning his career as a teacher, the Lord called him into ministry soon thereafter. Graduating from seminary and being an ordained minister, he pastured churches in Canada, Oklahoma, California, and Alabama. After retiring, he and Neva served as volunteer missionaries in New England and several places overseas.
Following the death of his wife in 1996, he later married Eunice Perryman of Pell City, Al, and continued in ministry with her. He wrote a book “Prayers of the Heart” at 98 years of age. He had a deep abiding passion for preaching the Good News and was a good and faithful servant of God, preaching is last sermon at the age of 102 for a community gathering in Pell City, Al. While living in Marshall TX, David was celebrated as the Father of the Year by Central Baptist Church, and his five children were present.
One of David’s most precious gifts of service to his family, friends, and fellow servants of the Lord was his faithful and daily practice of intercessory prayer on behalf, many times on his knees before the Lord.
Following in the footsteps of Jesus, David was also a carpenter – woodworking many cherished pieces for his family and friends. Throughout the early years of his life, David also played the violin for his family.
Blessed with a green thumb and a wealth of knowledge of natural growing methods, David grew vegetables and flowers most of his life and was always proud of his tomatoes and roses.
All the 12 years David spent in Pell City, Al, he and Eunice have been involved in the First Baptist Church, especially in Senior activities.
He is survived by his wife of twelve years, Eunice, as well as four children: Dr. David (Pat) Milligan, Granbury, TX; Robert (Darlene) Milligan, Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada; Marjorie Milligan Knighton, Colorado Springs, CO; and Esther (Bob) Milligan Burroughs, Greer, SC; Moyra Milligan Symonds, Salmon Arm, British Columbia, Canada, preceded him in death.
Stepsons are John (Frances) Perryman Pell City, Al, and Frank Perryman, Atlantic City, NJ.
David had 12 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
