Allan lived in Birmingham until he started school at Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, Tennessee. He later transferred to Riverside Military Academy in Hollywood, Florida, and graduated in 1948. He attended Tennessee Wesleyan College for a short time before transferring to the University of Alabama which was closer to home; where he intended on finishing out college but was drafted in 1951 for the Korean War. Allan was stationed in Austria for some time until 1953.
Allan was a devoted Mason and Shriner for 64 years. He was a member of the Ben M. Jacobs Masonic Lodge and Zamora Shriner's Temple. He helped start the local Shriner's chapter, Dixie Shrine Club, and was a devoted member there. He thoroughly enjoyed attending the Turkey Shoots they hold every year. He loved being a Road Runner for the Shriner’s Hospital where he drove children and their families to the hospital in South Carolina for care. He loved living on Logan Martin Lake and did so for over 40 years. He and his late wife, Virginia, built their home on the lake in Alpine (Clear Creek) in the early 70's and even camped there with family and friends before the lake was developed in the 60's. They enjoyed all the lake had to offer until they moved into Pell City in 2017. The two were married for 46 years before her death in 2018.
Allan is survived by; his daughters, Marsha Ann Jones (Marlon) and Kathy Jones (Jeff), his son, Tommy M. Jones IV (Ann); his grandchildren, Ashley White (Daniel), Lori Darden Ramsey, and Wesley Barron; and his cousin Anne Swick Logan (Bill).
Allan was preceded in death by his wife that he loved dearly for 46 years, Virginia Kent Hooper; his son, Charles Allan Hooper; and his daughter, Sarah Francis McCray.
A celebration of life visitation for Allan will be held Tuesday, September 13, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kilgroe Funeral Home. A celebration of life funeral service will occur Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Kilgroe Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
