Shirley Ray Corbell Tatum, 81, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away Thursday evening, September 16, 2021. She was born on August 3, 1940 in Cottondale, Alabama to Ruby Etheleen Hall Corbell and Arvin Winford Corbell.
Shirley graduated from Holt High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama before attending the University of Alabama until her marriage to James Griffin Tatum on September 28, 1963. Their union was blessed with two children.
Shirley was employed by Dr. C. Orian Truss as a bookkeeper for almost 25 years. She was a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church, where she was active in the Abundant Life Sunday School Class.
In her leisure, Shirley enjoyed collecting antiques, cooking, travelling, and most of all, spending time with her grandkids. She was a member of the Assistance League and the Red Hatters.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by one brother, Billy Corbell. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, James Griffin Tatum; one daughter, Stacy Tatum Jones; one son, James Griffin Hawkins Tatum and his wife, Ashley Bass Tatum; grandson, Parker Thomas Jones; three granddaughters, Kendall Klein Tatum, Ashley Sloan Tatum, and Katherine Lane Tatum; sister, Joann Boshell; and many loving cousins, extended family, and friends.
Friends are invited to gather with Shirley's family for the memorial service at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Briarwood Presbyterian Church, Birmingham. The private burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, Alabama.
