Matthew Justin Humber was born on August 30, 1975 and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 25, 2022. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. JC Wheat of Gordo, Alabama, and Mr. Lloyd Humber of Fayette, Alabama.
Matthew is survived by his grandmother, Mrs. Arlene Humber of Fayette, Alabama; his parents, James Terry and Manda Wheat Humber of Vestavia, Alabama; his brother, Michael (Katheryn) Humber of Mountain Brook, Alabama; his sisters, Meredith (Trey) Fitzpatrick of Shelby County, Alabama and Melissa (Shaun) Yan of Vestavia, Alabama; his nieces and nephews, Kate and James Humber, Shannon and Avery Fitzpatrick, and Delun, Tai, and Sloane Yan; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Matthew was a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Alabama where he was active in youth activities, earned his Eagle Scout, was a member of the Rives Life Group, and volunteered as a teacher in the English as a Second Language program. After earning a degree in electrical engineering from The University of Alabama, Matthew worked for Pfifer Wire Products in Tuscaloosa, and he became an integral part of Pfifer’s team building a plant in China.
Due to Matthew’s love for teaching and to his learning to speak Mandarin during the China project, he moved to Wuhan, China to teach English for almost 10 years. Upon returning to Alabama in 2017, he worked for several companies as a controls engineer.
Matthew loved life. He loved his family and his friends. He had a ready smile, a huge personality, and a willingness to help others in any way he could. He never met a stranger. Watching University of Alabama sports, listening to his Country and Christian music, and riding his motorcycle were some of his favorite activities.
Matthew had a kind heart and a giving spirit, and he will be missed dearly by his family and friends. Because of the hope we have in Jesus, our earthly grief — though difficult — is temporary, and we shall see Matthew again in our resurrected bodies, united forever with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What a day that will be for all who have placed their trust in Jesus!
A celebration of Matthew’s life will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Alabama. Visitation with Matthew’s family will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with the celebration service at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, 1114 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209.
