She was born on January 25, 1942, in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Henry Garrett Courson and Vera Candace Courson. After graduating from Woodlawn High School she attended Phillips College. On June 5, 1959, she married the love of her life, Rayburn Carter, and their union would be blessed with three children. Cindy owned a ceramic business for 15 years and was self-employed as an interior decorator for 25 years. She had a passion for all types of crafts and decorating. A member of Southside Baptist Church in Alabaster for 40 years, she dedicated her time as a Sunday school teacher and vacation bible school and was the Director of the Women’s Missionary Union.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her daughter, Kristy Suzanne Carter; and her sister, Virginia Bonham.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of almost 65 years, Rayburn Carter; her two sons, Kerry Scott Carter (Kim) and Kenneth Rayburn Carter (Libba); her grandchildren, Tarayn Comer (Paul), Adrian Finley (Jonathan), Katelyn Carter, Lauren Hobson (David), Jacob Sweeney (Desaray), Mitchell Carter (Brittany), Joseph Sweeney, Kendall Carter, Milly Carter, Avery Carter, and Mia Carter; her great-grandchildren, Ava Finley, Evia Gray Comer, Elsey Comer, Emma Finley, Allyson Sweeney, Madalyn Sweeney, Crew Carter, and Ellie Blair Hobson. She is also survived by her nephew, Richard Bonham; and a host of other family members and friends.
A visitation will be held at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 10:00 am, with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery.
