I am sorry to hear about your Mother. I knew you were close to her and I remember such nice things you would share about her. Let me tell you dear... she is with you in spirit.. ! She will hear your quite whispers , your laughs, and she know when you need her.

I've known the Davis family all my life.  Joy was one of the kindest people I ever met.  After years of no contact, she welcomed me and my daughters to come see her beautiful bird and we sat in the living room laughing every time it hollered, "Joy".  Six years ago when my own mother was ill, she came to be with her one last time before she passed and so kindly checked in on my father afterwards to make sure he was doing "ok".  She was always so sweet and warm and ready to laugh.  And Anna its funny you say that, but my mom's bedroom was ALWAYS purple!  Joy is thought of with great admiration and love and she will be missed by me and many others.  Rest in peace sweet lady.

I am Jaime Reyes, married to ANNA Davis daughter of Joy and Charles Davis.  One of Mrs Joys loves was dancing. Now her dance of choice was clogging. But I introduced her to Cajun/Zedeco dancing from Louisiana. I took her and Anna to a Cajun dance in Birmingham. We were doing a cajun waltz.  Everything was going smoothly until, I went one way, Mrs Joy went the opposite way. We held our position briefly in what looked like a Tango mess.  Then we both throw our heads back and laughed. We walked off the dance floor and Mrs Joy said “you know it’s your fault. You are suppose to lead me”. Another burst of laughter.  Well in the words of Mrs Joy - it don’t matter.  For Life is about having fun and making memories. Mrs Joy made a lot of memories for those around her. Mrs Joy was a wonderful, caring and loving person. I look forward to our next dance Momma Joy. Forever your son in law.  Love you Forever Momma Joy.

To the woman who started my nail habit, who gave me my love for hydrangeas, who fed and watched hummingbirds with me in the rocking chair, who wore jewels on every finger, who’s just as loud and opinionated as I am, who made sure no one was ever the least bit hungry, whose facial expressions could say a thousand words; a true strong-willed and classy southern woman. I pray that I live to become even half the successful, strong, and loving woman you were. Birmingham will never be the same.

Mom, I am blessed beyond words that you are my Mother.  Holding your hand, laughing together, eating chocolate anything... those are my beautiful memories of you. Your words and hugs have calmed me and I will listen for you in the stillness of the sunrise and  see you in the magic of the hummingbirds.  I will continue to share my hopes and dreams with you. I know you are with me always. Also ask Jesus for an adjoining room for me and yes of course you can go ahead and paint it purple.  Love forever, Anna Lee
