James earned his PhD degree from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, and his professional career spanned several years in education.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Dixon Hutton. He is survived by his wife, Linda Lawley Hutton, to whom he was married on December 11, 1992; his mother, Sandra Sandifer Hutton; three sons, Jason (Angela) Hutton, Stephen (Erin) Cook, and Jonathan (Katie) Cook; grandchildren, Sawyer, Blake, Kylie, Alyssa, Jackson, Madison, and Nathan; two sisters, Deborah and Janet; and one brother, John.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, followed by A Service of Remembrance for James at 12 noon at the funeral home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124. Burial will be at Nabors Cemetery in Alabaster, Alabama.
