Howard Harry Roberts Jr.

On August 4, 2024, Howard H. Roberts, Jr. (Scooter) returned to the waiting arms of his late father, Howard Roberts Sr., his late mother, Gaye Roberts, and his late sibling, Jann McDowell. Most importantly, Howard returned to the waiting arms of his God and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Howard loved fishing and playing backyard football, basketball, and baseball with his brother, cousins and neighborhood friends. He also enjoyed golf and scuba diving. His favorite pastime was watching college football on TV and pulling for Auburn University. He also loved playing with his nieces and nephews and attending their important life activities. He also cared for his mother when her health declined in the last few years of her life.

Howard was born in Bessemer Alabama in 1947. He graduated from Hueytown High School, and later attended UAB while working toward his Civil Engineering Degree. He worked for Pittsburgh Des Moines (PDM) Steel early in his career at the Pratt City location, and had stops at two other PDM locations in Houston and Pittsburgh. Eventually, his love of home, parents, and siblings brought him back home to Concord, Alabama where he lived the remainder of his life. Howard worked for the City of Birmingham in the Engineering Department for many years until his retirement.

Howard is survived by his brother, Keith Roberts and his wife Mary Roberts, his brother-in-law Steve McDowell of Pelham, Alabama along with his nieces and nephews, Steven McDowell of Hartselle, Alabama, Kevin Roberts of Auburn, Alabama, Kara Sewell of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Jessica Roberts of Irving, Texas.

Visitation will be held at the Southern Heritage Funeral Home on August 24, 2024 at 1:00 pm with A Celebration of Life service beginning at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to American Heart Association in honor of Howard Harry Roberts Jr.
