He was born on August 9, 1941, in Coeburn, Virginia to the late Thaddeus Dewitt Kennedy and Melissa Ellen Hall Kennedy. Don owned Kennedy Plumbing, Heating & A/C, LLC from 1975 – 2015. He had his state certification as a master gas fitter, master plumber, and HVAC. He was also an active member of RSES.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his grandchildren, Mary Katherine Kirkpatrick; Matthew Kirkpatrick; Michael Kirkpatrick; and his siblings, Theresa Kennedy Moore; Nita Kennedy Jessee; and Rosa Ellen Kennedy Mullins.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Katherine Kennedy Kirkpatrick (Jimmy); and Kim Kennedy Kimbrell (Dale); his grandchildren, Joseph Kirkpatrick (Charlotte); Jonathan Kimbrell; Rachel Kirkpatrick; Nathan Kirkpatrick; Hannah Kirkpatrick; Andrew Kirkpatrick; Daniel Kirkpatrick; Samuel Kirkpatrick; Joshua Kirkpatrick; and Jordan Kirkpatrick; his great-grandchildren, Austin Ward; Chase Ward; and Everleigh Ward; his brother, Forest Paul Kennedy (Ruth); and a host of nephews and nieces including Wayne, Jimmy, Phil, and Olivia; along with special loved ones by heart, Hollie, Nick, Ashley, Cody, and Dean.
A visitation will be held at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Friday, March 15, 2024, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in memory of Don to either Alabama Oncology at Grandview Cancer Center (3670 Grandview Pkwy Suite 200, Birmingham, AL 35243) or Alabama Cardiovascular Group (3680 Grandview Pkwy Suite 200 Birmingham, AL 35243)
