Charlie William (Bill) Scott, Jr. was born in Elberton, Georgia on October 21, 1935, and went home to be with his Lord on April 21, 2023. His parents were Mabel West Scott and Charlie William (Charlie) Scott, Sr.
He earned a B.S. in chemistry from the University of Alabama in 1957 and an M.D. in 1961 from the Medical College of Alabama (now UAB).
On March 2, 1962, he married the love of his life, Jeanette Phillips, and together they had four children, Sheila Scott, Keith (Connie) Scott, Bridget (Allan) Thompson, and Philip Scott.
Aside from a military leave of absence from July 1966 to July 1968, he spent his career working at what is now known as UAB, dedicated to the practice of hematology and to medical education. He held various titles, including Interim Dean, Acting Dean, Deputy Dean and Director of the Office of Undergraduate Medical Education and was a Professor Emeritus of Medicine, University of Alabama School of Medicine after his retirement.
His passion was for teaching the Bible. He served as a Sunday School teacher from 1973 until his death, most recently at First Baptist Church of Birmingham. He taught a Bible lesson there the day before the injury that ended his long and fruitful life. He was devoted to his family and raised his children in the admonition of the Lord. Many were surprised that he had not been to seminary, but the depth of his knowledge was due to his great love of the Word of God.
He is survived by his wife and children, and three grandchildren, Alex Scott, Sam Scott, and Lidia Scott. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Walter Eugene (Gene) Scott. He is missed by his family and friends and all who sat under his teaching.
