Colleen Parish Adams went to be with the Lord on Sunday January 7, 2018. Colleen was born in Atlanta, GA on April 29, 1929. In 1959 Colleen moved to Birmingham, AL with her husband Bob and her son Joe. In 1963, she and Bob founded ADCO Companies, LTD. where she would continue to work for the next 50 years. Colleen has had many accomplishments in her lifetime, but, none more important that being a devout Christian, a loving wife for 59 years, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. Colleen was a member of Shades Mountain Independent Church for over 30 years before transferring to First Baptist of Birmingham. During her days at Shades Mountain, she traveled to Israel and Curacao for mission opportunities and was a supporter of World Reach Ministries where her husband (Bob) volunteered for service in Kenya. Colleen volunteered with the Assistance League of Birmingham for over 35 years, serving as president of the local chapter twice, treasurer, helped with setting up Prime Time Treasures in its current location, served as regional council representative and worked with the National Society's Board by setting up new chapters across the country. In recent years, she was a founding board member for the Southeastern Cancer Foundation which raised money for UAB Cancer Research. Colleen will be most remembered for her love of Christ, love of family, love of friends and her love for dancing. The family would like to thank Katie Cochran of Home Instead for all of her love and support over the last many years, but, especially over the last 3 years. The family would also like to thank the employees of Home Instead that spent their time with Colleen on a regular basis, you have really become part of our family. Colleen is preceded in death by her husband Robert B. Adams (Bob); Mother Allene Parish; Father Collin Parish; Brother Harry Parish: Brother Larry Parish: Sister Juhn Jones: Colleen is survived by son Joe (Betty Jo) Adams: Granddaughter Courtney (Matt) Richard; Grandson Taylor (Katie) Adams; Great Grandchildren Alli Byrd, Ryan Byrd, Colin Adams, Jack Adams, and Charles Richard: Sister Jacque (Bill) Dean; Sister Janelle Parish; Last but not least, Virgil Mitchell (Mitch), Colleen's dance partner and friend since 2006. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home at 11:00 A. M. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:00.
