Charles Ray Poole of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, died early on Saturday, April 18, 2020. He was 93, having been born the eighth of nine children to Robert and Mattie Poole in Independence, Virginia on April 10, 1927.
Anyone who knew Charlie knew two things about him within a short time. As an Auburn grad, he left no uncertainty about his loyalties in the local intercollegiate warfare between SEC schools. And then, also in short order, a new friend would know of his love for Jesus Christ, as often as not through Dad’s country rendition of “Because He Lives.".
Charlie would also be quick to tell you about his wife of 61 years, Marjorie Talmage Poole. Together they reared two children, Charles Allan Poole (Betsy) and Beth Poole Mullins, and were proud grandparents to six grandchildren: Ellie Poole, Sam Poole (Caitlin), Sarah Poole, Kristin Mullins Patton (Chris), Josh Mullins, and Meagan Mullins, and great-grandchildren, Ethan and Luke Patton.
The family is especially thankful for the staff and residents at Cahaba Ridge Lifestyle Community, Charlie’s employer and colleagues at Essential Solutions in Pelham, Alabama, and the saints of Altadena Valley Presbyterian Church.
The private graveside service and burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham.
Memorial gifts may be made to Altadena Valley Presbyterian Church, 4660 Caldwell Mill Road, Birmingham, AL 35243. Visit www.avpc.org.
