Mrs. Spann was born on December 28, 1931 in Ashville, Alabama. She was a graduate of the University of Alabama and a member of Chi Omega sorority.
She enjoyed a long and rewarding career, having taught English at Tuscaloosa High School from 1969 to 1980, as well as in St. Clair County in Springville, Ragland, and Ashville at the advanced High School level until her retirement. She was a beloved teacher, credited with expanding the minds of thousands of children and fostering a love for literature and a strong command of the English language.
Mrs. Spann is survived by her son, James Max Spann Jr (Karen), Birmingham; grandsons James Paul Spann, Birmingham, Ryan Christopher Spann, Birmingham, and a great grandson, Kason Hale, Goose Creek, South Carolina.
The Spann family greatly appreciates the assistance of the nurses and employees at Danberry At Inverness, who took excellent care of her in recent years. Mrs. Spann will be missed, but leaves fond and lasting memories to all those who knew and loved her, including her former students.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham. Mrs. Spann will be buried at Ashville Cemetery.
