Barbara Heathman McGohon was born October 8, 1935 to Robert Earl “Poss” and Eva Heathman in Nicholasville, Kentucky. She received her formal education at Nicholasville elementary and High School and was an elementary education graduate of Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. She was a faithful member of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church.
Barbara was united in holy matrimony with Buddy McGohon on August 9, 1957, in the Nicholasville Baptist Church. Their union was blessed with 3 children, Beth, Amy, and Alisa.
A devoted homemaker Barbara’s family was always her priority. She was also a faithful Baptist Pastor’s wife serving with her husband's churches in Kentucky, Mississippi, and Alabama as well as the churches of the Montgomery Baptist Association. In the early years of marriage, she taught elementary school children for 5 years and later was an employee of Lifeway Christian Book Store. She also served as a volunteer at Brookwood Medical Center and for the We Care Ministry at VHBC.
Barbara was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed most kinds of needlework. She was an avid reader and a fan of UK basketball, Alabama football, and in later years Braves baseball.
Barbara Heathman McGohon was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Earl and Eva Heathman, and a sister Sue Earl Hartman.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Dr. Buddy Clay McGohon; Daughters, Beth Grauel (Mark), Amy McGohon, and Alisa Walker (Johnny); Grandchildren, Maegan McRoberts (Rich), Sarah Jones (Pat), Ann Marie Comer (Brandon), John Mark Walker, Mitch Walker, and Jackson Walker; Great Grandchildren: Eva McRoberts, Lily McRoberts and Kyleigh Grace Comer
Nephews, David and Stephen Hartman.
Visitation will be held at Vestavia Hills Baptist Church on October 9 at 1:00 PM with a Memorial Service to follow at 2:00.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vestavia Hills Baptist Church Permanent Endowment Fund or a charity of your choice.
